Our Ethical Gemstones

OONA’s Commitment

At OONA, we believe that the beauty of precious stones goes beyond their outward appearance: the true value of a gemstone lies in its story, its origin, and the respect with which it has been obtained.

Transparency is a core value of our philosophy. That is why we use only ethically sourced, sustainable gemstones. We embrace the concept of conscious luxury, where beauty and quality go hand in hand with a deep respect for nature, social responsibility, and the preservation of craftsmanship.

What Is an Ethical Gemstone?

Ethical gemstones are those that are extracted, processed, and traded with full respect for human rights and the environment. For a gemstone to be considered ethical, it must fulfill the following requirements:

• Absolute prohibition of child labour and any form of worker exploitation.
• Fair, safe, and dignified working conditions for all miners involved.
• Minimal environmental impact during extraction and processing.
• Responsible and sustainable production practices.
• No links to armed conflicts or illicit activities.
• Full traceability and transparency throughout the entire supply chain.

Sri Lanka: A Pioneer of Responsible Mining

Sri Lanka is the only country in the world where gemstone extraction is strictly regulated by the government, ensuring sustainable mining practices, fair working conditions, and complete traceability of every gemstone from its source.

All the natural gemstones we use come from certified suppliers in Sri Lanka. There, we also handcraft each piece with local artisans, helping to preserve the country’s jewelry-making tradition and contributing to the development of its community.

Building a Sustainable Future Together

Choosing ethical gemstones is a way to transform the industry. It must be a shared commitment between producers, brands, and consumers — working together to build a fairer, more transparent, and more sustainable future for mining communities and for the planet.
